Almost Done!!!

Latest pic of Jerry & Me. With our matching faux hawks! LOL..

That picture was taken on Sunday! Sundays have really been fun for Jerry and me! Football, football, football!!! We have NFL sunday ticket so we can see all the Detroit Lions games... YAY! haha.. Maybe the next picture of us I post will be one taken during a Detroit game of Jerry hanging his head in shame as I'm rolling around in the floor with laughter!! I'm just kidding.. Jerry and I talk a lot of smack on Sundays. All in fun!

Now I'm going to have to start growing my hair out a little. I'm still going to keep it short because I like my hair better short, but the faux hawk is going away.. I just got it, too.. I have to say I will miss it - it's been a lot of fun! I know my mom will be happy to see it go though!

Well, last night I went to meet the preacher with my mom. He was awesome! He read through a couple things that are going to be in our ceremony, and I teared up... My mother did too... Which makes me really nervous that I will be an absolute wreck on our wedding day!! When I told Jerry about some things in the ceremony, he blamed me of trying to make him tear up!!! haha... If he breaks down, I know I will not be able to control myself. It always gets me when the groom tears up! Jerry didn't get to go because he was getting his things ready to go to Pennsylvania today! :( Everyone pray for him so he has a safe trip there and back please!

So, on my mind now is what the bridal party will wear. Since our wedding will be outside at the end of June, I want everyone to be comfortable and cool. So, I'm thinking that the men will be in light colors. I've added a photo of an option for the guys. Obviously, I'm not going to talk about what I'm going to wear because Jerry will be viewing this too, but I have picked my dress. It was actually the first one I tried on. It's white... That's all I'm going to say! haha... My matron of honor, Mindy, will be in a lime green dress. I've also added pictures of some ideas I have for that! Some of the pictures have different color, but they will be lime green.

This one will be lime green with a white sash.

I like this one.. It's fun and cute.

This is kinda cute. Not sure about the asymmetrical look, but I love the top half!

I think this would look nice on Jerry!

So, we almost have everything done! The only big things left for us to do are the cake and the caterer and those are both in the works! After that, it's just the little things! I can't believe we only have 9 months left! Actually, less than nine! Time has been going by so fast since we got engaged!

Sooo Busy...

Today has been quite an eventful day for me! Jerry's at work, and I'm home watching Across the Universe for the thousandth time?? I love this movie. I decided to make some appointments to meet with wedding people! So, tonight I will be meeting with a preacher! I had my heart set on using the preacher from my childhood, but it turns out that our wedding date is his 39th wedding anniversary. So, needless to say, we won't be able to use him, but my mother met this preacher at a bridal show. She liked him, so I figured I would too! He has an excellent speaking voice, and he seemed really nice over the phone. I can't wait to meet him! We decided to use a sand ceremony instead of a unity candle since it will be outside. I didn't want the unity candle to go out while the service was still going on. Since the sand ceremony is meant to be a keepsake, I thought it would be cool to use something that we would actually sit out around the house! I love pictures, and I found this frame online! It's perfect! Every time we look at it we will be reminded of our wedding day. This is also a great way to incorporate Jalen into the ceremony. He will be pouring sand with us!

I also made an appointment for a cake tasting! I can't wait for that. We are going to be having cupcakes instead of the traditional cake! This way I can do more flavors and colors. We are planning to have 2 cupcakes per person. We will be tasting vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, orange, lemon, and coconut cake on October 13th. Since our colors will be the sorbet colors, I thought it would be cool to make the cupcakes the colors of the wedding. This way it will be easy for our guests to pick what they want! Also, since it's summer, the fruit flavors won't be too heavy! Hopefully this one will work out! We had met with another lady that had a catering/cake business, but she increased the price every time I talked to her! I didn't like that. Oh well... We will get everything done eventually!
These cupcakes are kinda cute.. I like the color!

These are my favorites... I love the shape of the frosting, and the Gerber Daisy on top. The side cake is really cute! That would be what Jerry and me will cut on our big day!

I guess I haven't mentioned the colors of the wedding until now. We will be using a lime green, bright pink, orange/melon, yellow, etc. All the colors will be similar to that of sorbet, like I said above. The main color will be the green one. Green is my favorite color, and I figured I could make the bouquets and centerpieces really colorful if I used that as our main color! I have a lot of ideas for the centerpieces and bouquets... I found some pictures of some that I like... My favorite flowers are gerber daisies, but I don't just want to use those, so we will also be using roses and green button mums to add some really pretty green in the bouquet. I have an idea for centerpieces that incorporates limes. It's going to be lovely, I just know it!

Simple. I like this centerpiece a lot.

I like this idea. It's very cute, if if it wouldn't turn out looking tacky.

This is perfect!!! I absolutely adore this centerpiece!

These are nice bridesmaid bouquets.

This is pretty.

We also thought that a candy buffet would be an awesome idea for our favors! I love bright colors and most candies are bright! Who doesn't like candy?? I hope that everyone likes this idea and will actually take the favor. We will have bags at the table for people to help themselves and put their goodies in! Jerry and I are both pretty non-traditional and fun so this suits us! A sugar buzz will be excellent for our guests, plus it's something that everyone will actually use/eat. I've found some pictures of candy buffets I like! I think the one with the pictures around the jars are cute. My idea was to have some pictures of Jerry and me making cute faces, etc. We could change our minds a million times before the big day though! I'm keeping this open for change!

I like the colors and layout of this one.

I love this one! The black and white pictures are a great contrast for the bright colors!

This will be about the same size as we will use! It's cute...

The colors of this one are perfect for our wedding. The table is a little too crowded for me though...

Location, Location, Location!

As soon as Jerry & I got engaged we started making plans. As a matter of fact, we discussed the wedding date on the flight home from Detroit! We decided to get married in the summer because Jalen would be out of school and it would be an easier transition for him to change schools in the summer, rather than the middle of the school year! I called my mom as soon as we got home to start planning! I told her the date, but she said my younger sister, Amanda, (who got engaged two weeks before me) would be getting married that same week so it would be impossible. It took us a while, but we finally settled on a date that would work for all of us!

When we started talking about where we wanted to have the wed
ding, I knew that I wanted to have a reception that everyone would enjoy! I also wanted everything to be really beautiful and vibrant. I thought about doing a church wedding, but our church looks like a gymnasium! I love our church, but I want our pictures to be beautiful. A gymnasium isn't exactly what I pictured. We also would have to do our own clean up there and set up the chairs for the church service that would take place the next day! I just don't want that stress on me or my family! I spoke to someone I work with and she said that she knew someone that got married at a local winery, and it was beautiful, but she heard it was pricey! I looked at their website, and I contacted the woman responsible for the weddings there. She sent me a slide show of a wedding that took place there, and after looking at the pictures I was sold. THIS was the place that Jerry and me were going to get married! Woodmill Winery is absolutely gorgeous! We will be getting married outside under the covered deck there! The reception will also take place here. We will have dinner inside and dancing outside! Lots of wine for everyone!!!

First One!

Good Morning everyone! I am so excited to be starting this blog. I had started a wedding web page, but I thought this would be easier since I can edit everything myself and don't have to go by a specific template!

We are so excited to be sharing our planning with everyone! I will be k
eeping you updated on our planning details and ideas as we go along. Since we both have relatives in different states, it will be really simple for us to keep them updated on the process. It's also a good way for us to keep up with some of them!

Most of you know that Jerry and I got engaged on June 10th, 2008 (my 27th birthday!). That was the most special day of my entire life, so far!!! We were in Detroit visiting his mom & his step dad Lou, and while we were there we were going out to celebrate my birthday! On my birthday, we went to Canada (where Jerry tried to run the border and nearly got thrown i
n jail!), and then we went to the MGM Grand where we stayed the night! A limo took us to the Renaissance Center, where we went to Seldom Blues for a couple drinks and then up to Coach Insignia (the restaurant on the 72nd floor). We had our meal and dessert and then we walked around to check out the view. Jerry asked if I was ready for my birthday present and handed me, what appeared to be a bracelet box. I began opening it, and then saw a tiny box in the center of the bracelet box. My heart hit the floor, and I don't think I could breathe! He said some really sweet things and then asked if I would be his wife! I said yes, obviously, after I caught my breath, and that brings us where we are today!

A picture from the restaurant where he proposed!!!

My beautiful engagement ring!!!

I am so excited to become a part of his family, and for him to become part of mine. Jalen, Jerry's son, is pretty excited about our wedding as well!

Our families seem to be growing at an extremely rapid pace!
Jerry's brother Tim, and his wife Jamie are expecting a little boy in January. My older sister, Kristy and her husband Tim are also expecting in February, but it will be a girl. My younger sister, Amanda, is getting married in May of 2009, so we will be welcoming Trevor into the family as well! 2009 is going to be an excellent year for the Abernathy's and Knight's!

We also just had our engagement photos taken on September 15th! They are online and available to look at. Our photographer is under our favorite blogs - you can access her website through that, and look at our pictures under online events! We think they turned out great! We had our names on a really cool old movie theater marquee! Below is a picture I took with my phone! Jerry and I both love movies and music, and this old theater is actually used for concerts, so I thought it would be a perfect place for us!
